CLIMATE-CONTROLLED UNITS PROTECT WHAT MATTERS MOST TO YOU
July 17th, 2021
Key Storage is happy to offer you climate-controlled units at many of our properties. As we’ve grown, so have the needs of our customers, and that includes finding a safe and secure location for the things they love and ensuring that they are not destroyed, degraded or ruined by mother nature. Climate-controlled units are especially useful where there are extreme temperatures, such as high heat or low cold areas. Even if you don’t live in an area that sees drastic drops or increases in temperatures, climate-controlled units are a nice amenity.
How do you know if you need a climate-controlled unit?
When you make the choice to move items from your home, garage, or the home of a loved one, you want the best care possible for those items. On top of the added security at all of our locations, climate-controlled units will ensure your items are well maintained for as long as they are stored.
For starters, we highly recommend a climate-controlled unit if you are storing:
- Antiques, especially wood furniture
- Musical instruments
- Books, magazines or comics
- Important documents
- Upholstered furniture
- Vinyl records
Benefits of climate-controlled units
Sensitive items like wood furniture, antiques, and musical instruments can suffer from warping, splitting, or cracking due to the constant change in temperature, hot or cold.
Additionally, items like fine art, books, magazines, comics, or business records can also be damaged due to the temperature change. Because these items matter to you, they matter to us.
Additional benefits are that these units are less susceptible to minor flooding or being tracked in dirt, and because they’re indoors, there is little chance for rodents or insects to make a home in your things. It’s also another barrier to dust and debris making its way onto your stored items.
Finding a climate-controlled unit is just the first step. The next step is how you choose to pack your items. Be sure to wrap items in the proper packing materials to enhance longevity and protection. By doing your part to prepare for storing your items, you ensure that they will be in the same condition when you pull them out as when you first stored them.
So while you’re securing your unit be sure to pick up the proper packing materials such as bubble wrap, plastic wrap, plastic covers, and plastic stretch wrap. It’s a little work, but it will pay off in the end.
Extra peace of mind
In the long run, not only are your belongings safely and securely stored, but you’re also getting peace of mind. You’ll never have to worry about safety, weather, or humidity issues with your items. That alone is worth it!
